Think "class system," and some folks wind up on the bottom. The population of Pakistan is 98% Islamic, the "Christians" make up less than 2%. Christians is in quotes because they are labeled from birth, not necessarily a condition of faith. The loudest voices in this culture reject the truth of Christ's death on the cross, His burial and resurrection. Basic tenets of the faith remain mysteries or partially known truths. Remember those who had not heard of the Holy Spirit? (Acts 19:2) Many communities are without pastors. Their elders rely on TV and radio personalities to teach them what a Christian is supposed to believe. Sadly, most in city slums, rural and tribal areas cannot read to discern the truth for themselves.
Grace Believers Society holds monthly "One Day Seminars" throughout the Punjab district. Teaching essentials of the faith is of necessity in an environment where the dominant religion denies them. With Evergreen Academy the poor are offered free education. Students learn to read, and some are learning English preparing them for better job opportunities. Without education Christian men are limited to being sanitation workers, indentured farmers or brickmakers. The women serve as maids. There's no lack of those who would better themselves. With a little outside support seminary students are available to expand this work. Many pray for a partner.
Greetings to God’s family, all I hope to meet someday. How wonderful it will be to know as we are known by our Lord and Savior, who has been interceding for us with our Father who caused us to be born again. Jesus has witnessed our doings both before and after our new birth. His Spirit within us prays for us according to God’s will and our need. Greetings to all my brothers and sisters who share this like faith.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5NASB)
The WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY and HOW of Salvation are described in just three verses. Peter’s letters often require the reader to slow down and dwell on what was said. How sad that so many are unable to read.
Education’s cost is beyond the means of most Christian families in Pakistan. When monthly wages are averaging $100-$125 for a laborer, and $150 for an office worker, educating your children is truly an unaffordable luxury. Want to help?
